I think it’s also worth mentioning that a writer on the show, Lesley Arfin, is an outspoken racist whose released such gems as Tweeting cute shit like “What really bothered me most about Precious was that there was no representation of ME.”that caitlin moran tweet is taken out of context, moran later went on to say “Asking every female artist to represent 3.3b women in every project she does is a crippling and unfair request.” Can we not celebrate Dunham creating a truthful and hilarious representation of women without bringing race into it? would we question this if she were a man/writing about men?

No, it is not taken out of context. No, I will not celebrate a show that depicts an over-represented and privileged group of people living in a world that doesn’t exist.
It is not groundbreaking to show White and light-skinned Jewish women living in New York City. This show is not a representation of modern life, or of life in Brooklyn. Girls shows an extremely whitewashed version of the city, with PoC only making small appearances in stereotypical roles. It would be different if this were about men. Mostly because, in the US, our television is so full of White men that we barely notice when there are no men of colour on screen. (For example, how many people noticed that only a few men of colour were ever shown on Suits?) However, these shows rarely claim to be a representation of modern life and of the struggles of women. Girls does.
I can’t speak for PoC, but that’s why I’m pissed off. You cannot claim to be representing women while refusing to represent the majority of women.

Without apology (she coughed up an apology for the Precious Tweet, apparently), she is apparently the kind of person who thinks it’s clever to compare President Obama’s skin color to shit, or to say in an interview that the word “nigger” is the one that makes her feel proud to be a writer.
So yeah, I think under-representation of women of color could be one of the lesser of Girls’s racial problems. Ugh.

from Lisa Lampanelli’s wiki bio
“Lampanelli began her stand-up career in New York in the early 1990s.[16] In explaining her reasons for switching from journalism to comedy, Lampanelli stated not only for the pay raise, but because “I get to say the n-word word on stage and get paid money.”[”
she WOULD be friends with Lena Dunham
Just using this as an excuse to bring up the fact Girls also employs as a writer Lesley Arfin, is an outspoken racist whose released such gems as Tweeting cute shit like “What really bothered me most about Precious was that there was no representation of ME.”Without apology (she coughed up an apology for the Precious Tweet, apparently), she is apparently the kind of person who thinks it’s cute to compare President Obama’s skin color to shit, or to say in an interview that the word “nigger” is the one that makes her feel proud to be a writer.Gross.](http://25.media.tumblr.com/f470ee0ea211e56baa7a8e242ea9d902/tumblr_mig36zkmB41qcfoo3o1_r3_500.jpg)

yeah
so
caitlin moran legitmately just told me that she could not give a shit about the representation of WOC. SHE JUST SAID THOSE EXACT WORDS. as one of the most prominent feminists in the UK today, her particular brand of white middle class feminism is THE FUCKING PITS AND I HATE HER. please excuse my rage but CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS.
her book is called ‘how to be a woman’. HOW TO BE A FUCKING WOMAN.
can i not be a woman if i think representation of WOC in modern media is really important? more important than the representation of white women?
fuckkkkk her
ugh!
in which caitlin moran reaffirms her status as an arsehole

And she’s already finished a year’s worth of college credit.
And also she’s getting her pilot’s license within the year.
Oh and she’s going to UCLA.
To become a doctor.
So she can join Doctors Without Borders.
And fly herself out to treat patients.

I mean I’m not telling you what to do or anything.
But all the cool kids are voting for her sooooo
SIGNAL BOOST SIGNAL BOOST SIGNAL BOOST BECAUSE THE WORLD NEEDS TO HEAR ABOUT BADASS BLACK GIRLS
Holy crap. Is there anything this extraordinary young woman can’t do? I wish I’d been 1/10th that cool in any part of my life so far.
There needs to be a TV show based on her character or something. Seriously. I can see how awesome it would be. The adventures of a teen flying ace - full of action! adventure! friendship! laughs! drama!
Having had to wade through the magazine’s website to get to the voting section, I wish they’d run the magazine more with the values of this contest rather than fashion/celebs/make-up/et cetera. I know that’s ridiculously quixotic, but I’m just sayin’.](http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7bodiP0Qt1r0nxrmo1_500.jpg)
