I need feminism because… I’m sick of seeing your eyes roll when I tell you I’m angry. Belittling my voice doesn’t stop me from speaking.
I always want to say “You know, you roll your eyes one more time at me, I can fix it so they stay that way, motherfucker.”

…….What? How? How does this have anything to do with gender? Last time I checked, there were black men and black women in this world. What an idiot…
I’m sorry but…
WHAT? One, there are “dark” men too. Second, what in the fuck does that have to do with feminism?
…What?

…
yes there are obviously black men, but who do you think skin lightening products are targeted at? she’s saying that to appeal to beauty standards in the us (which are set by white people, but also by men) that a lot of women use skin whitening cream, and are encouraged to use it. which is so, so fucked up. if you think racism and sexism aren’t closely intertwined idk what to tell you
Exactly. Women of color are told they’re undesirable, or that their only redeeming traits are their ass, thighs, curves, or breasts, because the standards for beauty have set by white misogynists who dehumanize and festishize WOC. They’ll tell you to put these harmful chemicals on your skin and take your dollar, but they won’t take your ass.
The fact that skin lightening products are sold means that there is a demand for people who want lighter skin because they have been rejected and condemned for their bodies.
DO YOU FUCKING PEOPLE ACTUALLY NOT SEE THE HARMFUL CORRELATION BETWEEN THIS SHIT.
I’m so fucking embarrassed by my fellow white feminists. You racist “feminists” are a fucking joke. If you can’t see how racist beauty standards aren’t relevant to feminism then you can gtfo.
My sister used to have a boyfriend that told her she was “pretty” because she had lighter skin and “better” features (not like those other black girls). The amount of weight, even in these modern times placed on black women adhering to a “lighter is better” is considerable and interconnected with sexism without a doubt.
“What does race have anything to do with feminism?”
White feminist….
stop.
Skin lightening products are a godsend so that otherwise ugly women can become slightly more beautiful.
So do skin darkening products. Its called tanning/tan spray/bronzer.
…I’m a little lost on your point here. No black person on earth is actively or passively encouraged to become darker (as its not associated with ideal”beauty” as an example). If anything, the thread has established that there are social disincentives for darker women. Thus, there’s not exactly a booming market for tanning products for black people…
Just a helpful reminder to the embarrassments on this post:
FEMINISM IS INTERSECTIONAL OR IT IS BULLSHIT AND NOT FEMINISM.

You didn’t think too deeply about this did you? Of course not. If you were prone to thinking deeply about things… you probably wouldn’t be a Feminist, now would you?
I’m screaming “THAT’S THE POINT THAT’S LITERALLY THE POINT YOU JUST MADE THE EXACT POINT” at my computer screen right now.
He is good for something other than a cautionary example.

I need feminism because I don’t want my son growing up thinking that he has no control over how he treats others. I want him to know that he won’t turn into an animal just because another person happens to be drunk or wearing “provocative” clothing.
There is no justification for sexual assault. As well as being remarkably dis-empowering to the victim, the “she was drunk” etc etc arguments place men in the default position of being a sexual predator. How are more men not outraged by that? I would like to believe that I, as a man, have enough self control not to sexually assault another person regardless of setting or circumstance. I don’t want my son to grow up afraid that he is not in control of his own actions and may harm somebody as a result. Every person is responsible for their own actions, sexual assault is a CRIME and sexual assault is NEVER THE FAULT OF THE VICTIM.
Bolding mine. I might actually support MRAs if they got mad about the right shit, instead of feminism and “incel” (look it up and scream).

I need feminism because today I was going to buy this t-shirt from the men’s section of a clothing store. The shop assistant tried to take it from me because “it’s a men’s t-shirt. It isn’t made for female bodies.” I said that I had tried it on and liked it, so I wanted to buy it. A group of nearby middle-aged men then started scoffing, and one said, “you don’t want to buy that shirt anyway. It gives men the wrong impression.” What wrong impression? What? Just let me buy the damn shirt without making me feel like I’m doing something wrong as a woman just because I wear men’s t-shirts. I don’t need or want your comments. (men’s t-shirts are usually cooler than women’s t-shirts anyway.)
Don’t you want to share with us the clothing store (including specific location) so we can make sure they don’t get one dollar of the money of people that believe in equality?

I need feminism because my best (male) friend told me I don’t have a boyfriend because I am “too independent.” My self sufficiency and confidence should NOT be a turnoff.
Not much a friend, more like a misogynist asshole that has attached himself to you like a leech. Be independent of that pretend-friend!

Here's All The Awful Things Feminism Hasn't Caused. YET.
Are you implying that feminism IS NOT a bad word?

I need feminism because my self-worth is not equivalent to a man’s sexual appraisal of me.
As someone put it, how about we stop this “Everyone is beautiful” crap and instead work in “It is not necessary that you be found universally fuckable.”

I want nothing to do with a feminism that excludes trans* women. Go be a cisterhood without me.
135 notes and counting. Faith in world semi-restored ♥.
Feminism must be intersectional and inclusive or it is bullshit.
dismantle the patriarchy, don’t create a new one
commentary ^
Part of what we need to do is stop conferring the title of “feminist” onto these people (like the “white feminist” phenomenon). The word is a badge of honor and a call to duty and I don’t want to give the same title worn by bell hooks to some bigot that allows “only wombyn-born wombyn” (I actually fucking saw that once) in her group.
If you are racist, homophobic, transphobic, or in any other way bigoted/ignorant of the concept of intersectionality, YOU ARE NOT A FEMINIST. You are a fauxminist, and actual feminists should (and thankfully do) call your bigoted ass out as such.

I need feminism because I’m sick of men telling me what to do with my body (and having my female friends tell me to “get over it”).
